Yes, it seems that AI was trained in the DNA of many viruses, and was then able to make up a blueprint for a specific type of virus (called a “bacteriophage”, and which infects bacteria). They then used easily available technology to join the various needed molecules together to make an actual chain of DNA, that was also an actual bacteriophage. The AI (called EVO) trained on 17 trillion genes, made 700,000 suggestions, 285 of which were turned into viruses by scientists, and 16 of which made totally functional bacteriophages
